When is the morning?
Main Post:
So in another post asking why people say 3am in the morning a commenter answered they use is to denote whether or not they have been to bed. Someone else answered that am is always morning. I would think morning begins at dawn. If it is dark out then it's still night. Which one is correct grammatically?
Top Comment: Consider that you can say “I went to bed at 3 (am) last night” or “I woke up at 3 (am) this morning”. Both of them are fine grammatically. I do agree that the morning/night difference is a slight indicator of whether or not they have been to bed. If someone tells me “I took a shower at 3:00 this morning”, I’m inclined to think that they took the shower after waking up. On the other hand, it they say “I took a shower at 3:00 last night”, I’m thinking that they took the shower before going to bed.
What’s your morning routine like?
Main Post:
Sick of seeing the same old morning routines everywhere, where people somehow seem to be waking up at 4:30 am, whipping out their yoga mat and doing a 40 min workout, snorting some chia seeds for breakfast, etc etc. I want to hear your realistic morning routine- what works for you? What has been a habit that you incorporated that has been a game changer? What makes you feel productive and sets yourself up for success for the rest of the day?

Morning routine ideas?
Main Post:
- After writing this post I think it'd be more apt to have asked for daily habit ideas, as because of my work hours I may not always have time to do this routine in the morning.
I don't always need to be up early in the morning. Sometimes I start work at 07:00, sometimes it's as late as 11:00, sometimes nothing in the morning at all. However, I want to maintain a good sleep pattern and always wake up at the same time, but I find that if I don't need to be up early I just have nothing to do and end up just getting more sleep.
It's not the end of the world, but I want to have some productive routines I can follow to give me a reason to be up every morning. I am a Personal Trainer so I generally exercise before or after my first clients of the day, and I always eat breakfast before work as well from my meal prep, and stay well hydrated. I've had a look at some morning routines but they are generally things like dribk water, exercise, make breakfast, move alarm clock away from bed, or make bed (all of which I already do or cannot do - like make bed because my wife will still be asleep when I get up).
Whether it's things like planning my day, meditation, any other ideas would be helpful, but I want some things that will be a very clear boost to my productivity in life and become more organised and focused for each day.
*Thank you to everyone that responded, I will go through all of them as soon as I finish up with all my work.
Top Comment: I don't always do this, but I find it helpful to write at least one sentence every morning. It could be anything like your emotions, determinations, ideas, etc.

Morning routine
Main Post:
I’m looking for a very basic, generic morning routine - a starting point for me, to which I can later improve. Just need a foundation, thanks!
Top Comment: I'd start with the essential things for your physical and mental health. Get up at the same time each day, the time will depend on other things like when you start work/school etc. Make your bed. Even if you are working from home or going to sit back on your bed, still make it. Do some basic stretches and a 5 minute work out. Not anything major unless you want to add something, but just something to get your body moving and woken up. Have a shower Eat breakfast Brush your teeth and hair. Also some basic skin care, even if it's just moisterisuer and lip balm or something. Look at your plan for the day (I tend to write down a to-do list the night before and have a basic plan of things I want to get done that day) Think that covers most things as a foundation. Hope this helps.
How do people who wake up early in the morning maintain energy throughout the day?
Main Post:
The people who wake up at 4:00 or 5:00 am to get a few extra hours out of the day, how do they maintain energy? Every time I wake up early, I feel like the rest of my day is affected due to tiredness and then I end up being less productive. Is it just something your body adjusts to over a period of time if you cut down sleep from 8 hours to 4-6 hours?
Top Comment: My take: Waking up early means going to bed early, so they must balance. Then the benefit of an early start for me has been the ability to have a bit more time before "all the mess" begins around me. When younger I placed that timeslot late in the day. Evidence shows that our sleep-wake cycle is not simply a product of choice. The usual finding is that teenagers naturally start days later and stay up later (keeping all other factors the same), which as we age shifts to earlier and earlier, with old people the earliest (). So your preference may be hard-coded.
What time is best for you to wake up at in the morning?
Main Post:
I am the type of person to wake up at 11/12 everyday which is so bad I know. But I want to start waking up earlier and wanted to see what the most common time that people seem to wake up at
Top Comment: A sleep schedule of 11pm - 7am is generally good for most people
What do you do in the first hour of waking up?
Main Post:
This is probably a pathetic question but what do you do when you first wake up to be productive for the day?
usually when I wake up I want to let myself slowly wake up and lay down or sit but when i’m fully awake I don’t want to do anything just yet so I look at my notifications and then get stuck on my phone for 2 hours. I know this is a problem but what can I do?
Top Comment: Pee, coffee, dress as fast as possible because I'm late to work.
i literally can’t get up in the morning and i’m desperate to change.
Main Post:
i (25f) have this real issue where i just can’t leave bed. it’s destroying my life. here’s a few examples of why-
- i get flexi time in work. the latest i can start is 9.30. nearly every morning i wake up and stay in bed until 9.15, just enough time to brush my teeth and hair and boot up my computer. (i work from home). even if i set my alarm at like 7am i’ll stay awake but i just don’t leave my bed.
- i work a 40 hour a week office job but also have an apprenticeship for literally my dream career. on the weekends i aim to go in and do work here (it’s very casual i can choose what days i work), but today, for example, i just couldn’t leave bed. i ended up having a bit of an argument with my boyfriend (he’s totally right) about how i never do things in the morning, i’m wasting a great opportunity and now i feel so guilty and shitty. so i suppose this one is a double whammy, affecting my dream career AND my relationship.
- i always feel like i look like shit(ok this one isn’t destroying my life but my confidence lol) i’m a relatively attractive person when i put the effort in- i want to take care of myself to look and feel my best, but because i just don’t leave bed until the last second i never have time to put effort in.
- my diet is shit bc i don’t leave myself enough time for breakfast and so i get hungry and eat shit for the rest of the day.
- i don’t feel like i should be allowed to do things i enjoy because i am constantly playing catch up due to this behaviour and so i miss out on things like seeing my friends and family, playing instruments, learning languages.
how do i just GET OUT OF MY FUCKING BED GRRR. i’m infuriating. literally any advice. any books. anything. i’m so so so desperate. i don’t want my life to pass me by anymore i’m so done. i feel like i’ve been on autopilot since i left school and idk where i went wrong. please help me. even if someone wants to message me every day for the rest of my life and bully me into leaving my bed i don’t care lol
Top Comment: Don't go right from bed to work -- do something you really enjoy, that you can't do in bed, before starting work. If you know exactly what you're going to do, and are looking forward to it, before you go to bed, it's a lot easier to get up.

How early do you wake up before work? What does your morning routine look like?
Main Post:
I worked full time for internships for a year and took classes at school.
I struggle with adhd so I hyperfocused all of my energy towards work and school. I neglected my health significantly drinking caffeine, pulling all nighters, eating doordash, no exercise, etc... I was studying and working 18-20 hours a day.
I would wake up dreading work everyday. I would roll out of bed 20 mins before my day started at 8:40am and quickly get ready.
Now, I am thankfully unemployed and medicated for adhd. I am learning to build a healthy lifestyle routine.
Recently, I started going to a fitness class which requires me to wake up at 6am. I realized I like waking up early and having time for myself before starting my day.
I am curious what your routines look like and how early you like to wake up before starting your day. Share away!
Top Comment: I am not a morning person in the slightest. Correction: I am not a waking up person. There has never been a morning where I wake up feeling happy about it lol. That said, my routine is highly structured. I also have ADHD, but I'm still unmedicated (though I plan to try to rectify that), and I find having a sweet routine helps me a lot with feeling a little less miserable! Three days a week I work from home, so those days I wake up around 6am. Get up, walk the dog, make breakfast, and log into work by 7am. The two days in in the office are a bit different. One of them, I'm up around 5am so that I can walk the dog and get home in time to do makeup, get dressed, pack my lunch, and get out the door to be in the office by 7am. That day sucks lol. The other day I'm in the office, I'm up around 530am to get makeup on, get dressed, and pack my lunch. Then I take the dog to daycare and an in the office by 715am. On the weekends, I typically let myself sleep as long as I want on Saturday. I run best on 10 hours of sleep, which I can't get during the week typically, so I catch up on Saturday, basically. Sunday I'm up by 8am so I can get brunch with my parents before they go to church!
